Influence of Diphenylhydantoin to the Effect of Ouabain in the Frog¢¥s Ciliary Movement

Abstract
The purpose of this stuly was to investigate the influence of diphenylhydantoin ,(DPH) to the acton of ouabain in ciliary movement of the frog¢¥s esophagus.
In normal frog Ringer¢¥s solution, over 3, cg/ml of ouabain delayed the speed of the -transit of the poppy seeds significantly. This inhibitory effect of ouabain on the ciliary movement was inhibited by DPH.
Decrease of KCl or increase of CaCl2 content in the Ringer¢¥s solution accelerated the ciliary movement, and increase of KCl or decrease of CaC12 depressed the ciliary activity.
Decrease of KC1 or increase of CaCl2 accelerated ciliary movement by ouabain. This accelerating effect of ouabain was inhibited by DPH.
Increase of KCl or decrease of CaCl2 inhibited the response of DPH to the effect of ouabain.
It is suggested that the method of DPH pre-treatment, and concentration of K and Ca ion in the Ringer¢¥s solution may play an important role on the action of DPH on ouabain.
